Hi All

I am new to Airtable…..

I have set up a base with all my customer records and imported sales data to populate all my fields.

Now that I have new sales data, I cannot import the data to over-write existing data. All I seem to do every which way I try is create duplicate account information with new sales figures.

This is really frustrating. I have tried using data from excel, CSV file as well as Google Sheets with the same result.

What am I doing wrong????

Any help will be appreciated.

What you’re looking to do is called a “merge” (also known as an “upsert”) of your imported data with your existing data.

To perform a “merge”, you can use Airtable’s CSV Import Extension, which gives you the option to merge your data upon importing.

If you need this process automated — or if you need more advanced control over your merge — you can perform an automated “upsert” (same thing as a “merge”) by using Make’s CSV integrations along with Make’s Airtable integrations.

I give a full demonstration of importing and exporting CSV files with Make on this Airtable podcast.

Hope this helps!

Hello,

If your sales data is more granular (e.g., individual transactions you want to keep separate), you might consider having a separate "Sales" table linked to your "Customers" table. In this scenario, you would import new sales into the "Sales" table and link them to the appropriate customer using a "Link to another record" field, rather than trying to update a single "Total Sales" field in the customer table. This approach is generally more robust for detailed sales tracking. For very frequent or complex updates, consider Airtable automations or scripting (JavaScript) to process incoming data and update records programmatically. This is beyond basic import but can be incredibly powerful. mymilestonecard com

Hey @Sbenson,

As an ex-post solution to your already existing duplicates you can also use Airtable’s Dedupe extension to easily (but manually) merge those duplicates.
